Atletico Madrid’s first training session in recent weeks was a success, according to coach Vicente del Bosque.
“I am not in the position to say ‘it’s not going to happen, it’s not that’,” said the Spaniard after a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad.
“But we are not the only ones who are going to defend the players.
It is the first time in our history we have been able to defend our position with the best players.”
It’s been a difficult week for the team.
First the team had to endure the shock of losing their top scorer, Fernando Llorente, and defender Sergio Ramos, with the latter missing the first leg due to injury.
Then on Thursday, they were hit with the news that Carlos Tevez had been ruled out of the next four matches due to a knee injury.
However, Del Bosque says that while the players have to accept the situation and try to improve their performances, it is important to remember that the first step in that process is always to try to be better.
“We are in a very difficult situation,” he said.
“The club needs to be more honest, and we must not be complacent.
We have to find ways to improve the situation.
This is the truth.”
